I'm on the fence over whether I should buy the Asus Eee pc 900 or the HP 2133 Mini-Note. So I did a bunch of research and decided to share.
I plan on using my UMPC as both a ssh terminal when I'm at home and a Mobile python / openGL hacking device elsewhere. I'm interested in hearing other Developers/ Linux hackers experience with each UMPC.
If you have one of these PC's and run Ubuntu. I'm still looking for a Head to Head comparison regarding 3d acceleration. Even though the VIA Chrome9 has pixel shaders, I am unclear on the overall performance relative to the Intel 900.
I refuse to use SLED or Xandros (IMO they're both MS ass-kissing OS's) The only operating system I plan on using with my UMPC is Ubuntu 8.04. no other Distribution has a better community for support. I'm no stranger to patching the kernel but the less time I spend fucking around with drivers the better.
First up the HP 2133 Mini-Note:

the HP 2133 @ amazon: Here
Pros:
Better Resolution & Overall Performance, vertex & pixel shaders on the gfx card,
Large keyboard, BlueTooth Hardware, battery Life > 5 hrs, Looks Sexier
Cons:
Driver Hell, Wifi uses NDIS wrapper, Sound Card Driver problems, installation will be tedious
Now for the Eee PC 900:

the Asus Eee PC @ Amazon: click Here
Pros:
Multi Touch Touchpad, Smaller, 20GB SSD, durability,
dependable intel 900 gfx card, Awesome Ubuntu community page
Cons:
Worse overall performance, Battery Life <3 hrs, crappy display resolution, gfx card lacks shaders, Multi-Touch not yet working in Ubuntu.
I'd have to see Benchmarks that prove the HP 2133 Mini-Note has superior performance over the Eee PC 900. The Eee PC has had a head start with a community so I'm sure one will develop around the HP as well given a few weeks/months.
I guess I still can't decide, maybe someone can send me one and I'll do a review and build an installation script for Ubuntu ;) write me @ collin.schroeder@gmail.com or post your opinion to the reddit discussion.
